Kayo books are celebrating 11 years of providing vintage paperbacks, pulp and popular culture to San Francisco. Thanks to all patrons and welcome to those who have yet to grace our doorway. We are a bookstore in downtown San Francisco specializing in Vintage Paperbacks from the 1940s to 1970s and esoteric books of all persuasions. Our small store is like a museum of pulp fiction and non-fiction. The stock presents a glimpse into the lurid past of dimestore novels, sleazy 1960s exploitation, and 1970s pop culture.

Omnivore Books
Omnivore connects the past to the present by offering centuries of knowledge on growing, raising, and cooking food. We offer everything from 19th Century agricultural guides to how to start a kitchen garden in a 21st Century apartment. While the store is full of books, it also hosts numerous events featuring chefs and authors talking about their passions. Search the website, sign up for our e-newsletter

The nation’s first all-paperback bookstore, City Lights has expanded several times over the years; we now offer three floors of both new-release hardcovers and quality paperbacks from all of the major publishing houses, along with an impressive range of titles from smaller, harder-to-find, specialty publishers. The store features an extensive and in-depth selection of poetry, fiction, translations, politics, history, philosophy, music, spirituality, and more, with a staff whose special book interests in many fields contribute to the hand-picked quality of what you see on the shelves.

Adams Avenue Book Store

We usually have good selections of German and French Philosophy and Literature, and we try to keep a good stock of Latin and Greek instructional resources and classic texts. We have smaller collections in a number of other subjects not listed here.

When W.T. Warwick founded his paper goods shop in Minnesota in 1896, he sold books, writing paper, and writing instruments. Upon relocating to California in the mid-1930s, Warwick re-established his store in downtown La Jolla. The next generation, Wynn and Louise Warwick took over in 1950, expanding and modernizing the shop. In 1964, the third generation of Warwicks took on the mantle of ownership. Under the management of Bob and Marian Warwick the store grew in both size and prominence, undergoing two expansions and establishing loyal customers all over San Diego County.
