Importance of Books
With the advent of television channels the habit of reading is on the decline. Many people young and old were more into reading in the past then they are now. It is very disappointing to see not so many people visiting the library to read or borrow books. Children’s comics were much in demand in the olden days but with the introduction of technology today’s kids are more into computer games or are hooked to the net. Today’s hectic lifestyle is also responsible for the decline in the reading pattern. It is said you wont be lonely if have a book with you.
Books are not only a source of knowledge but also a source of inspiration. Not reading is not as dangerous as being completely hooked to the net. Due to the lack of interest in books children are spoiling themselves with dangerous games on the net which corrupt their mind and make them violent. If children’s are addicted to books then there is little to worry but once they get hooked to games then it is very alarming. The role of the parent is very important in molding the child’s interest. Children always imitate their parents so it is the responsibility of the parents to cultivate reading habits in their children.
It is never too early to introduce your child to the pleasure of good book. We as a parent can help our children by reading children stories and bed time stories to our little ones so that they develop interest in reading at an early stage. It is proved that babies enjoy books from birth. Though they won’t understand anything for the first six month of their life, but they will love your warmth and will enjoy your gentle voices. This will help your child to love books and reading and will also help you to bond with your little ones.
As the pages of a book are turned, a child’s world is broadened. Throughout the years of childhood, expose your child to quality books of all kinds: picture, story, rhythm and rhyming, adventure and mystery, fantasy, interpersonal relationships, travel, reference, riddles and puzzles, arts and science. Reading will become a treasured part of your child’s life. Reading aloud shouldn’t become an intense learning session. It should be abouthaving fun together.
Reading develops a person’s creativity. Fluency in language and communication and vocabulary skills is improved by reading. So the next time you are free try to spend sometime with your child reading books rather than watching television with your children.
